Wellbeing and Fitness Instructor

In this rewarding role, you will deliver a wide range of fitness, wellbeing, and educational programmes designed to improve the physical and mental wellbeing of prisoners. Working within a secure custodial environment, you will inspire, motivate, and support individuals of varying abilities while maintaining high standards of safety, security, and professionalism. HMP Bronzefield is a closed local prison and is the largest female prison in the UK and Europe. We focus on delivering high quality, needs‑led services that support women to make positive and lasting changes. Our programmes promote rehabilitation and wellbeing, and we care for around 14.5% of the national female prison population, including mothers with babies, young offenders, women on a range of sentence lengths, foreign nationals and those on remand. The prison includes multiple residential units, a healthcare centre, gym, library, workshops, visits hall, chaplaincy and kitchen.
Main Responsibilities
Deliver a variety of wellbeing, fitness, and sporting activities to prisoners within the Wellbeing Centre.
Conduct gym inductions, fitness assessments, and create tailored exercise programmes to meet individual needs.
Deliver accredited fitness and educational programmes, supporting learners to achieve qualifications and personal goals.
Promote healthy lifestyles and wellbeing initiatives that can be sustained during custody and after release.
Maintain the safe operation of the Wellbeing Centre, including equipment checks, stock management, and adherence to health and safety procedures.
Organise and supervise fitness events, competitions, and staff wellbeing activities while maintaining security and control within the prison environment.
The Ideal Candidate
Holds a Level 2 or Level 3 qualification in Personal Training, Exercise Referral, or a related fitness discipline.
Has experience delivering both one‑to‑one and group fitness sessions within a professional environment.
Demonstrates excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate and engage diverse groups of people.
Has strong organisational skills and is comfortable maintaining records, reports, and learner progress documentation.
Possesses a customer‑focused approach and a genuine passion for improving health and wellbeing outcomes.
Is confident using Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
HMPPS vetting and DBS.

up to £35,576.06 plus LW £3,729.24
5 days Monday – Friday 8.30 AM – 5.00 PM
