Specialist Occupational Therapist – rotational

University Hospital Southampton NHS Trust offers a rotational B6 Occupational Therapist post across a variety of clinical specialities. The role provides opportunities for a robust postgraduate‑experienced OT to develop across multiple areas before choosing a focus area.

Main duties

Manage a varied and complex caseload and supervise B3–5 therapy staff and students. Work across rotations in proportionate care, critical care, cancer care, surgery, cardiothoracic, medicine, maternity, vascular, AMU, paediatrics, orthopaedics and neurology.

Job responsibilities

  • Provide specialist occupational therapy assessment, provision and fitting of complex equipment.
  • Supervise B2–4 staff and named supervision of therapy students.
  • Contribute to audit, research and service development.
  • Participate in regular clinical supervision and peer support.
  • Develop leadership and management skills.

Essential skills

  • Postgraduate experience across several acute clinical rotations.
  • Experience in assessment, provision and fitting of specialist/complex equipment.
  • Evidence of day‑to‑day supervision and management of B2–4 staff or named supervision of students.
  • Clear reasoning for desire to work in a rotational B6 OT post within UHS.

Desirable skills

  • Involvement in audit, research, clinical projects or service development.
  • Teaching experience for therapy staff and students.
  • Understanding of complex equipment needs, including pressure care management.

Person specification

Qualifications, knowledge and experience

  • Degree in Occupational Therapy or equivalent.
  • Current HCPC registration.
  • Experience with a variety of physical and mental health conditions/multiple pathology.
  • Experience fitting a range of equipment.
  • Experience working with support staff.
  • Experience working in a multidisciplinary team.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development.
  • Experience independently managing a caseload of patients.
  • Previous experience within relevant clinical areas.
