About Our Commitment To Diversity And Inclusion
We live by five core values: Lead with Heart, Do New, Pass on the Power, Harness the Mix and Be a Rock. All our work has equality, diversity and inclusion at its very heart, best articulated in “Harness the Mix”. It’s about breaking down barriers between our parts and people and unlocking the problem‑solving power of our amazing mix of minds. We serve a diverse community, we have a diverse workforce and we are committed to being an inclusive employer.
We work hard to create representation across our workforce and leadership community. We have thriving employee network groups and our learning and development programmes help us lead, model and breathe ways of working that eliminate inequality, inequity, injustice and bias.
As part of this and under our commitments as a Disability Confident Employer, we make reasonable adjustments to accommodate our candidates. There’s space for you to tell us what you need within our application form.
About The Role
As an Activity Coordinator within the Sandbanks Care Home, you will play an important role in enhancing the wellbeing and quality of life of residents by planning and delivering a varied programme of person‑centred activities and entertainment tailored to individual interests, abilities and needs. Activities may include arts and crafts, music and singing sessions, reminiscence therapy, sensory stimulation, gentle exercise, baking, gardening, themed events and one‑to‑one engagement.
You will work closely with residents living with dementia and age‑related frailty, using compassionate, creative and flexible approaches to encourage participation, maintain independence, reduce social isolation and support emotional wellbeing. You will be expected to observe, evaluate and document residents’ responses and participation to ensure activities remain meaningful, enjoyable and adapted to changing needs.
The role also involves maintaining accurate activity records, contributing to care plans, and working collaboratively with care staff, families, healthcare professionals and external organisations to promote a positive and supportive environment. It is essential that applicants have previous experience working within a care home or similar setting and have a good understanding of dementia care and the needs of older people. You will report directly to the duty officers and collaborate with the wider care team to ensure activities are carried out safely, effectively and in line with residents’ individual care plans, preferences and abilities.
