Location: Eastchurch, Sheerness, Kent. Full time, part time or job share roles available for a 39 hour week. Starting salary ranges from £37,246 a year for 37 hours up to £41,503 a year for 41 hours, including any additional allowances.

Job Overview

Prison officers protect the public and guide prisoners toward rehabilitation. The role is fast paced and varied, requiring peacekeeping, counselling, and teaching duties within a high security environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain safety and security within the prison.
• Build constructive, professional relationships with prisoners.
• Support colleagues as part of a single team to keep everyone safe.
• Work a variety of shifts, including evenings, nights, weekends and public holidays.
• Provide a range of services such as peacekeeping, counselling and teaching.

Essential Qualifications and Requirements

• Minimum age 18 years at start of employment.
• Pass a medical, eyesight and hearing assessment.
• Valid right to work in the UK (or a suitable visa). Skilled Worker visa sponsorship may be available subject to eligibility.
• For a Category A Prison, be a UK resident for the last 3 years.
• Strong communication and influencing skills.
• Commitment to quality, care, and understanding.
• Proficiency in spoken English; Welsh where specified in Wales.

• Annual holiday entitlement: 25 days, rising to 30 days after 10 years of service.
