Role Overview
As a Fire Hydrant Technician in the Assets department you will be responsible for the inspection, testing, maintenance and repair of fire hydrants and other water supplies. You will ensure all work is carried out to the required standard as stipulated by the Water and Foam Officer, coordinate with water supply companies, and maintain accurate electronic records.
Responsibilities
- Inspect, test, maintain, and repair fire hydrants and water supplies
- Carry out repairs to fire hydrants in roadways, verges, and pavements, ensuring workplace safety and compliance with health & safety and highways legislation
- Work with water supply companies to report major defects and leaks and diagnose and rectify minor defects
- Comment on plans for new developments relating to fire hydrant requirements
- Respond to queries from crews about fire hydrant defects
Qualifications & Other Information
- Full current driving licence and ability to carry out significant travel in Service vehicles (manual transmission)
- Experience and ability to undertake manual handling and practical tasks such as inspection, testing, maintenance, and repair of equipment
- Strong attention to detail, particularly for accurate data entry
- Ability to work independently with good organisational and time‑management skills
- Standard Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) clearance will be required prior to offer
- Full pre‑employment checks will be undertaken, including identity checks, right to work, medical, references, employment history, and gaps in the last 3 years
- Required to speak clearly in English and pass language assessment as part of the selection process
