Pay: £14.59 per hour PAYE (Inc of Holiday Pay) | £18.71 per hour Ltd via Umbrella

Hours: 37 Hours per Week | Monday to Friday

About the Job

Service Care Solutions are recruiting on behalf of a respected local authority client for an experienced Sign Services & Traffic Management Operative to join their Operational Highways team. This is an excellent opportunity for a highways professional with traffic management experience to contribute to the safe delivery of highway maintenance and construction activities across Leicestershire and surrounding areas.

The successful candidate will play a vital role in delivering, installing, maintaining, and removing temporary traffic management systems, ensuring the safety of road users, contractors, and the general public.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install, maintain, and remove temporary traffic management systems in accordance with Chapter 8 and relevant Streetworks legislation.
  • Deliver and collect traffic management signs and equipment across operational sites.
  • Support highway maintenance, construction, forestry, and street lighting teams with traffic control measures.
  • Read and interpret traffic management plans and site drawings.
  • Carry out daily vehicle and plant checks, ensuring compliance with transport and safety regulations.
  • Assist in scheduling and coordinating the distribution and collection of traffic management resources.
  • Support emergency response activities and make sites safe during incidents when required.
  • Work collaboratively with Traffic Management Technicians and Sign Shop teams to ensure efficient service delivery.
  • Supervise and mentor apprentices, agency workers, and less experienced operatives when required.
  • Maintain high standards of health and safety, ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation and company procedures.

Essential Requirements

  • Experience working within a highways, civil engineering, or traffic management environment.
  • Knowledge of temporary traffic management operations and safe working practices.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Strong understanding of health and safety requirements within highway operations.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Ability to work independently and use initiative when responding to changing site conditions.

Desirable Qualifications & Experience

  • NRSWA Operative Qualification.
  • National Highways Sector Scheme (NHSS) qualifications: 12B, 12C, 12D (T1/T2), 12D (T5).
  • NVQ Level 2 in Highways Maintenance or equivalent.
  • Skilled Roadworker qualification.
  • LGV Licence with CPC and Driver Qualification Card.
  • Experience installing road closures, diversions, and traffic control systems.
  • Experience acting as Banksman/Signaller.
  • Knowledge of Chapter 8 Traffic Management Regulations and the Code of Practice for Safety at Streetworks.
  • Experience using underground service detection equipment.

Additional Information

  • Monday to Friday working pattern (37 hours per week).
  • Occasional requirement to work evenings, weekends, nights, or public holidays to support operational needs and emergency response.
