Role Description

Role: Residential Support Worker (Shift leader)

Location: Rickmansworth, Hertfordshire

Contract/Hours: Permanent – Part Time, 32 hours a week.

About the service: Short Breaks at West Hyde provides residential care for children and young people aged 5‑18 with a wide variety of additional needs including learning difficulties, complex behaviour, and complex health needs. The aim is to provide a safe, nurturing environment where they can enjoy activities, develop friendships and experience a supportive setting. West Hyde holds an Ofsted rating of ‘Good’.

Responsibilities: You will build bonds with children and support them with day‑to‑day personal needs, promoting independence. Working within a team, you will help maintain a fun and nurturing environment. Your key duties include:

  • Provide lead case/care planning management, including assessing, reviewing and managing risk.
  • Co‑ordinate responsibilities within the service, with multi‑agency and producing family information, including analysis and written reports.
  • Attend professional meetings including reviews, court work etc.
  • Lead the shift and guide other team members.
  • Be resilient in supporting young people through challenging situations.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Demonstrable experience in a care setting, developing positive relationships through trust.
  • Experience of applying a range of techniques to coordinate and communicate with service users and families.
  • Shift‑leading experience.
  • Solution‑focused approach to addressing problems individually and in a team setting.
  • Emotional resilience to handle challenging nature of the role.
  • Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or recognised equivalent); if not possessed, ready to complete within 2 years.
  • Car driving ability preferred as bus service is limited.
