Econo Foods is an FMCG retail company specializing in frozen foods.

Purpose of the Role

The Site Assistant plays a key supporting role in ensuring the cleanliness, maintenance, safety, and operational readiness of the distribution centre and fleet. The incumbent is responsible for maintaining site cleanliness, groundskeeping, vehicle washing and sanitation, minor maintenance activities, and supporting infrastructure monitoring. The role also ensures all fleet vehicles comply with food safety standards by conducting routine cleaning, sanitisation, inspections, and reporting of vehicle defects or damages.

Key Responsibilities

Daily Operations

  • Receive daily instructions and cleaning equipment from the Site Controller.
  • Clean and sanitise all working areas, including offices, restrooms, common areas, operational areas, and warehouse facilities using approved tools and chemicals.
  • Perform scheduled washing and sanitisation of all company vehicles.
  • Carry out minor ad‑hoc maintenance tasks and support site preparation activities.
  • Ensure safe handling, storage, and return of all cleaning and maintenance equipment.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organisation of cleaning storage areas, wash bays, and surrounding workspaces.

Vehicle Cleaning & Sanitation

  • Wash and clean all company trucks internally and externally.
  • Clean and sanitise truck box bodies before every loading shift to ensure food safety compliance.
  • Ensure loading compartments are free from dirt, dust, odours, water, and contamination before loading.
  • Conduct weekly deep cleaning of vehicles, including box bodies, floors, walls, tail lifts, curtains and doors, cab interiors where required, using approved cleaning chemicals and equipment safely and correctly.
  • Ensure all cleaning equipment is maintained and stored correctly after use.

Vehicle Inspection & Damage Reporting

  • Inspect vehicles during cleaning and washing activities.
  • Immediately report any vehicle body damage, tyre damage, oil or water leaks, broken lights, tail lift defects, door seal damage, or unsafe vehicle conditions.
  • Complete inspection and damage reports as required.
  • Escalate maintenance concerns to the appropriate supervisor.

Groundskeeping & Site Maintenance

  • Maintain grounds and exterior areas through lawn mowing, weeding, leaf blowing, watering gardens and landscaped areas.
  • Ensure the overall tidiness and appearance of the premises.
  • Assist with maintaining cleanliness of yards, loading areas, and wash bays.
  • Support general site upkeep and housekeeping initiatives.

Site Infrastructure Monitoring

  • Assist with monitoring and reporting on freezer and chiller temperatures, water tank levels, generator fuel levels and functionality, fire system readiness including hydrants, alarms, and extinguishers.

Food Safety, Health & Safety Compliance

  • Follow all food safety, hygiene, sanitation and housekeeping standards.
  • Ensure vehicles meet company and customer food safety requirements before loading.
  • Wear required PPE at all times.
  • Adhere to company health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Assist with safety inspections, spot checks and hazard identification.
  • Report unsafe conditions, incidents, or near misses immediately.

Team Participation

  • Attend operational meetings, training sessions, coaching, and toolbox talks.
  • Support cleaning schedule adherence and cleaning register updates.
  • Assist other departments when operationally required.
  • Work shifts, weekends, and public holidays as required by operational demands.
  • Promote teamwork and collaboration across all site operations.
