Buckinghamshire Council Family & Friends Assessment Social Worker within the Fostering/Kinship Team, the core duties include:

Key Responsibilities

  • Undertake Connected Persons (Regulation 24) assessments for relatives and friends caring for children.
  • Complete Special Guardianship Order (SGO) assessments and court-directed kinship assessments.
  • Assess prospective Family & Friends foster carers in accordance with fostering regulations and national minimum standards.
  • Prepare comprehensive court reports, fostering assessment reports, and panel documentation.
  • Present assessments to fostering panels and provide evidence in court proceedings when required.
  • Support and supervise approved Family & Friends foster carers and Special Guardians.
  • Carry out viability assessments to determine whether family members can safely care for children.
  • Work closely with Children’s Social Workers, Independent Reviewing Officers, legal services, and partner agencies.
  • Facilitate support groups, training sessions, and events for kinship carers.
  • Participate in duty systems and provide consultation regarding kinship and connected persons placements.
  • Ensure all work promotes the welfare, safety, and permanence planning of children.

Requirements

  • Qualified Social Worker with current registration with Social Work England.
  • ASYE completed. Minimum 2 years post-qualified experience.
  • Experience in fostering, looked after children, permanence, or court work.
  • Strong report-writing and assessment skills.
  • Knowledge of fostering regulations, kinship care legislation, and SGO processes.
  • Ability to provide written and verbal evidence in court.
