Maintenance and Compliance Technician

Hours: 35 hours per week (Monday to Friday 8:00–16:00 with a 1‑hour lunch break). Working pattern: day shifts.

Friends of the Elderly (FotE) is a not‑for‑profit charity that has been supporting older people for over 120 years. We provide care home and day care services for older people, together with financial support for those in need.

This role will involve ensuring the care home environment is safe, well‑maintained, functional and legally compliant, with particular attention to the needs of residents, including those living with dementia. The role includes performing regular compliance checks, maintaining appropriate records, routine maintenance and repairs, and liaising with contractors to keep standards up to date with CQC requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Perform regular compliance checks and maintain accurate records.
  • Conduct routine maintenance and repair work to uphold safety standards.
  • Liaise with and oversee contractors, ensuring resources and planning are adequate.
  • Manage basic plumbing, electrical and general building maintenance tasks.
  • Maintain statutory compliance and Health & Safety responsibilities.
  • Keep up‑to‑date with relevant safety training such as Health & Safety, Legionella, PAT testing and Asbestos Awareness.

Qualifications

  • Experience in caretaking or maintaining older buildings, with trade and property repair or maintenance skills.
  • Relevant qualifications, e.g. Health & Safety, Legionella Awareness, PAT Testing, Asbestos Awareness.
  • Strong record‑keeping and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and Microsoft 365 tools.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritise tasks and manage own workload.
