About the Schools
The Lumley Primary Federation consists of Lumley Infant and Nursery School and Lumley Junior School. We are two vibrant, friendly and caring schools with high academic and pastoral standards. Our schools sit at the heart of our local community, and we are extremely proud of the relationships we have built.
We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic, caring and skilled individual to join our passionate and committed team. Our staff work relentlessly to ensure every pupil achieves the very best they can. We break down barriers and instill in our children the belief that they should dream big and aspire to be whoever they want to be.
About the role
We are seeking a highly skilled, motivated and enthusiastic HLTA who is passionate about learning and inclusive practice. This is a dynamic role in which you will contribute to maintaining high‑quality teaching and learning across our schools. The post will initially be based at Lumley Junior School, but the successful candidate may be required to work at Lumley Infant and Nursery School where the need arises.
Responsibilities
- Providing high‑quality whole‑class PPA cover in classrooms, ensuring consistency, pace and high expectations for all learners.
- Providing short‑term cover of classes – both in planned and in unexpected non‑timetabled situations.
- Working collaboratively with the teaching team to support the delivery of the National Curriculum.
- Planning and managing resources.
- Maintaining high standards in teaching and learning.
- Delivering targeted interventions.
- Providing targeted intervention, 1:1 and small‑group support for pupils with SEND, including autism and physical disabilities.
- Converse at ease with customers and provide advice in accurate spoken English (essential for the post).
Requirements
- Have recent experience in a HLTA role.
- Hold or be working towards a recognised HLTA qualification (NVQ HLTA Level 4 or equivalent).
- Up‑to‑date knowledge of the National Curriculum.
- Be confident delivering whole‑class teaching within a mainstream setting.
- Be confident in maintaining high expectations and strong behaviour for learning.
- Possess knowledge of intervention strategies.
- Be able to demonstrate a positive impact on pupil development.
- Be pro‑active, enthusiastic, energetic and reliable.
- Be fully committed to safeguarding and to supporting children’s social, emotional and academic development.
Pay and Benefits
- Pay is calculated on Term Time Only plus 10 days. The basis is: 38 teaching weeks plus 1.6 weeks (8 days) public (bank) holidays, plus 2 weeks inclusive of CPD, plus individual leave entitlement (27 or 32 days based on continuous service).
- Employees with less than 5 years of service receive 27 days annual leave (approx 5.4 weeks); employees with more than 5 years receive 32 days (approx 6.4 weeks).
- Example calculations:
- Less than 5 years: 40 weeks (term time + 2) + 27 days (annual leave) + 8 days (public holidays) = 47 weeks’ pay.
- More than 5 years: 40 weeks (term time + 2) + 32 days (annual leave) + 8 days (public holidays) = 48 weeks’ pay.
