Job Summary

We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic, conscientious, self‑motivated individual to join our logistics team within the Supplies Department. The role supports the movement of patients, hospital equipment, and supplies across the Trust, as well as the receipt and distribution of items.

Under current Home Office Immigration Rules

This role does not meet the UK Visas and Immigration criteria and therefore is not eligible for sponsorship. Applications from candidates requiring skilled worker sponsorship will not be shortlisted.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in moving patients on beds, wheelchairs, or trolleys between departments.
  • Check patient wrist bands against X‑ray request cards before transport to X‑ray.
  • Operate computer terminals for data entry, producing reports and printouts.
  • Perform receipt and distribution duties, including contacting customers, preparing data, resolving queries, and filing.
  • Move hospital equipment and stores as requested.
  • Stand in for drivers when on leave or sick, providing transportation of post, specimens, and other items.
  • Assist with weekly delivery of medical gases and cylinder changeovers on wards, MIU, and other sites.
  • Remove contaminated laundry and other waste, ensuring proper segregation, disposal, and interaction with waste contractors.
  • Operate waste truck, compactor, and delivery van on a rota basis.
  • Push and pull waste bins (up to 100 kg) and prepare recyclable waste for routine collection.
  • Report defective equipment and repair needs to the manager or supervisor.
  • Participate in the emergency response team and attend medical emergencies in a supporting role.
  • Respond to major incidents and emergency situations as instructed.

Physical Skills

  • Pushing, pulling, and maneuvering trolleys, wheelchairs, beds, and vehicles.
  • Lifting full boxes of mail and managing heavy luggage (over 15 kg).
  • Loading and unloading general supplies, furniture, and equipment from vehicles.
  • Assisting patients on and off trolleys, beds, furniture, and vehicles.
  • Preparing meeting rooms by moving tables, chairs, and electronic equipment.
  • Delivering and collecting food trolleys and provisions to and from wards.
  • Transporting deceased to the mortuary.
  • Handling patients’ valuables in pre‑sealed boxes.

Equipment Use

  • Hold a full driving licence and complete the APIT van driver assessment.
  • Drive a 30‑cwt vehicle and maintain basic road‑traffic records.
  • Operate hydraulic lifting machines, high‑pressure washing machines, and electronic franking machines.
  • Use firefighting equipment and open automatic doors during emergencies.
  • Operate moving and handling equipment.

Communication

  • Provide and receive communication from colleagues to complete duties.
  • Communicate at all levels with staff, visitors, and patients.

Qualifications

  • NVQ Level 2 in a relevant subject or equivalent qualification or experience.
  • Full driving licence.

Experience

  • Experience in customer service or hospitality (essential).
  • Previous NHS, portering, or healthcare customer care experience (desirable).

Robert Jones & Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Foundation Trust, Twmpath Lane, Oswestry, SY10 7AG, United Kingdom. Band 2. Salary £25,272 per annum. Permanent, full‑time role.
