Adult Services sits within the People Directorate at West Northamptonshire Council and supports adults across a range of needs, including community support, learning disability services, hospital discharge, and transitions into adulthood. The focus is on enabling people to live independently, stay safe, and achieve the best possible outcomes.
Part‑Time Opportunity – 18.5 Hours per Week
We are seeking a motivated individual to join our team on a part‑time basis.
Working Pattern
- Wednesday to Friday (Friday morning office attendance is essential, 9:00am–11:30am).
Additional Information
This role is not open to Qualified Social Workers (QSW), as this is not aligned with the current establishment.
Responsibilities
As an Adult Social Care Worker, you will be part of a supportive team delivering frontline social care. The role involves:
- Working directly with individuals, their families, and partner organisations to assess needs, develop support plans and coordinate services.
- Managing your own caseload, responding to changing circumstances including crisis situations, and ensuring safeguarding responsibilities are met.
- Working collaboratively across teams and services, maintaining accurate records, and making informed decisions within a structured legislative framework.
- Contributing to a consistent, person‑centred approach across Adult Services and working flexibly across community settings.
- Identifying and responding to safeguarding concerns, ensuring timely escalation where necessary.
Key Requirements
- Strong communication skills, including clear report writing.
- Ability to build working relationships with individuals, families, and professionals.
- Knowledge or experience of adult social care and key legislation (e.g. Care Act, Mental Capacity Act).
- Ability to manage workload, prioritise tasks, and work independently.
- Ability to assess risk and make decisions based on a risk‑based approach.
- Experience working in multi‑agency environments.
- Confident using IT systems (e.g. Office 365) and maintaining accurate records.
- Ability to analyse situations and take appropriate action, including in challenging circumstances.
Desirable
- Experience working with adults with learning disabilities.
- Experience delivering social care outcomes using a strengths‑based approach.
Other Requirements
- Relevant qualification (degree, NVQ Level 4 or equivalent experience).
- Ability to travel for work (driving required).
This role will require some bank holiday working.
Legal and Compliance
- The role is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and therefore subject to an enhanced DBS certificate.
- The role is a regulated activity and will be subject to a Children and Adults Barred List check.
- This role does not meet the legal requirements for visa sponsorship under the Skilled Worker route.
