Job Introduction

Job Title: Hertfordshire Youth Workers

  • Salary Range: £33,869 to £36,364 per annum
  • Hours: Full Time (37.0 hours per week)
  • Job Locations: Broxbourne, Welwyn Hatfield and Dacorum
  • Contract Type: Permanent
  • Directorate: Childrens Services
  • JNC qualification * – trainees will start with a salary of £29,644 to £33,066 per annum while completing the qualification. Full‑time salaries are paid after qualification.

About The Service

HCC Services for Young People is the primary provider of youth work, career education and guidance, work‑related learning, work experience and the maintenance of education, health and care plans for young people post‑16.

We work with vulnerable young people to improve life chances, reduce escalation to more intensive services and support successful transitions to adulthood. Target age group is typically 11‑17, with 18‑25 for Care Leavers, and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities.

About The Roles

You will deliver targeted work for vulnerable young people, leading group projects with support from Youth Support Workers and providing one‑to‑one support. Your work will help early intervention, preventing serious impacts on daily life, health, development or safety. You should be able to establish positive relationships quickly and respond flexibly to diverse needs.

About You

Essential

  • Nationally recognised JNC qualification or the ability to complete the JNC high‑education qualification.
  • Recent experience of working with young people.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to prioritise workload and plan effectively.
  • Willingness to work regular evenings in line with JNC terms and conditions.
  • Confidence in using ICT.
  • Previous line‑management experience is desirable.
  • Full UK driving licence and regular access to a vehicle.

Funding for the JNC qualification is repayable if you leave within two years of post‑qualification.
