Pay: £288.15 PAYE or £404.39

Location: Hybrid between HPC site & Aztec West/working from home

Job Purpose / Overview

To support the development of the Operational Nuclear Safety capability for Hinkley Point C. This will include input during design, construction, commissioning, and the preparations for operation. The Nuclear Safety Engineer will support the project to ensure that nuclear safety requirements are met and will strive to achieve world best practices identified by benchmarking with other industry leaders and industry programmes.

Principal Accountabilities

Nuclear Safety Engineers at Hinkley Point C will be responsible for:

  • Supporting the maintenance and development of the Operational and Hazard technical specifications by providing safety case expertise and advice
  • Overseeing implementation of the nuclear safety case as a key project stakeholder
  • Providing technical advice to the project on reactor physics, core physics testing and fuel management.
  • Providing oversight of management of nuclear safeguards and accounting of nuclear material
  • Providing challenge to technical decision making in favour of nuclear safety
  • Governance & oversight over matters relating to nuclear safety

Knowledge & Skills

Essential

  • Understanding of Nuclear power operations
  • Proven communication skills
  • Ability to work to deadlines and within allocated budgets
  • Pragmatism

Desirable:

  • Strong Computer literacy skills
  • Understanding of Management systems
  • Nuclear Power Plant Operations
  • Safety Case knowledge
  • Ability to provide an independent view on technical matters

Qualifications & Experience

Essential

  • HND (or equivalent) as minimum in a science or engineering subject with subsequent industry experience, preferably degree qualified (or equivalent) desired- in a science or engineering subject in a relevant field.

Desirable

  • Experience of interacting with nuclear regulators
  • Experience in a light water nuclear power plant
  • Experience with safety case compilation
  • Familiar with Reactor Physics at a nuclear plant
