Active Living Programme Lead

Location: Wakefield One, Burton Street, Wakefield, WF1 2EB, WF1 2EB.

This role will play a key part in shaping and delivering programmes such as Move More Wakefield, Cycle Wakefield and wider active travel initiatives, with a strong focus on supporting communities who face the greatest barriers to being active.

We’re particularly keen to hear from candidates who:

  • Have experience leading teams and delivering programmes
  • Are confident working in partnership across sectors
  • Have a background in public health, behaviour change, or active travel
  • Are passionate about reducing inequalities and improving wellbeing through physical activity

Overall Purpose of the Post:

  • Work within and manage a team focusing on improving health and reducing health inequalities through physical activity programmes, including the delivery and coordination of targeted projects that encourage greater participation by a wider and more diverse range of people.
  • Develop whole district physical activity programmes and commission partner organisations to deliver specific activity outcomes.
  • Contribute towards the Move More Wakefield place partnership aims and outcomes.
  • Deliver excellent partnership working, influencing and negotiating throughout.
  • Take a delivery lead for specific work‑streams, developing and delivering district strategy to support these areas, influencing partnerships such as the Cycle Wakefield steering group.
  • Work towards clear Corporate Objectives, e.g., supporting every child to ride a bike by age 12, and develop programmes to achieve this.
  • Manage a team of physical activity officers to run, facilitate, and participate in numerous programmes across the district, encouraging behaviour change towards physical activity.
  • Have a good understanding of barriers faced by individuals and work to remove these barriers.
  • Specialist knowledge in physical activity, public health, and active travel, used to identify resident and stakeholder needs, review national standards and best practice, and secure additional resources.
  • Disseminate information widely in appropriate formats to professionals across the council and partners.
  • Embed a full range of public health specialisms and practice across services and partners.

Salary: £35,412 to £46,142 per annum.

Schedule: Full Time contract, Permanent.
