Due to new long-term projects and company expansion, a leading engineering group has a new vacancy for a Principal Power Electronics Engineer to join the company on a contract basis. Working on a number of new innovative R&D projects you will develop power conversion products, motor drives and power control systems for advanced electric vehicles and electrification projects.
The Role
- Collaborate closely with electronics, software, mechanical, and EDS engineering teams to develop innovative, practical and robust power electronic solutions.
- Design and develop power electronic systems, including gate drives, power switching devices, and magnetic components.
- Produce electronic schematics and provide technical oversight of PCB layout activities.
- Architect and optimise power conversion topologies, balancing efficiency, performance, cost and quality.
- Support and review design of DCDC phase of On-Board Charger to prototype standard.
- Support test/verification of On-Board Charger prototype modules of existing design, understanding that there is limited scope to affect overall design approach.
- Define control system requirements to enable effective monitoring, protection, and control of power electronic systems.
- Commission, validate, and verify power electronic hardware against system requirements and applicable standards, conducting root-cause analysis and implementing corrective actions where necessary.
- Support prototype builds, system integration, and test activities, providing specialist electronics expertise.
- Deliver engineering work packages in line with project schedules, proactively reporting progress, risks and issues against key milestones.
- Develop and maintain effective relationships with external suppliers and technology partners.
The Person
- Significant experience in development of power electronic systems such as DCDCs, inverters or rectifiers at high voltage (>400V) and high power (>10kW).
- Experience in schematic design and the specification, review and evaluation of PCB designs for high voltage/current.
- Use of simulation tools (e.g. PLECS, PSIM, SPICE) and other analysis techniques.
- Able to produce detailed test documentation and to track and report progress.
- Able to identify, prioritise and investigate functional issues with power electronics modules and propose short- and long-term resolutions to support project completion.
