Consultant in Paediatric Nephrology

We are seeking two full‑time, 10‑programme activities (PA) consultant posts to work with five other paediatric nephrology consultants and a multidisciplinary team delivering comprehensive tertiary nephrology care across the West Midlands. The appointees will share responsibility for a regional service, including regular emergency admissions, ward consultations, telephone advice, and booked investigations and day cases. They will cover the acute haemodialysis unit, undertake business ward rounds each day during on‑call weeks (approximately 8 weeks per year), and provide outreach clinics (≈ 1 per month) in selected district general hospitals.
The post holder will conduct a range of clinics covering General Nephrology, Chronic Kidney Disease, and Transplantation, with personal interests in sub‑specialities accommodated.

Qualifications
- Full GMC Registration (or within 6 months of CCT) with entry onto the Specialist Register for paediatrics with a paediatric nephrology sub‑speciality.
- MRCPCH by examination or equivalent.
- Higher Degree (MD, PhD, etc.).
Clinical Experience & Skills
- Completed competency‑based clinical training in paediatric nephrology in approved centres before commencing the post.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) unless included in mandatory training.
- Experience in paediatric nephrology practice in more than one centre.
- Management training.
- Fulfil GMC requirements for training to qualify as Education / Clinical Supervisor (APLS and NLS).
Teaching
- Experience in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.
- Training in medical education (e.g., Masters in Medical Education).
Research
- Understanding of the principles and applications of clinical research.
- Evidence of original research, including presentation at scientific meetings.
- Good Clinical Practice (GCP) training.
Professional Development
- Understanding of and adherence to the principles of Good Medical Practice set out by the General Medical Council.
- Contribution to effective clinical governance.
- Commitment to Continuing Professional Development.
Personal Skills
- Effective teamwork within a multi‑professional team.
