Portsmouth Water is embarking on an exciting transformation programme that will reshape how we engage with our customers and help them better understand and manage their water usage. At the heart of this transformation is the rollout of SMART metering across our supply area — and we’re looking for a driven and detail-oriented Smart Assistant Project Manager to help us deliver it.
Working closely with the Programme Manager, you’ll play a key role in supporting project delivery, coordinating contracts, and ensuring the effective use of data and systems. This is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to a high‑impact initiative while gaining valuable experience across project management, data analysis, and cross‑functional collaboration. You’ll engage with internal teams and external partners alike, helping to shape processes and provide insights that support smart, customer‑focused decision‑making.
What will you be doing?
Key Responsibilities
- Articulate process, system and data requirements, documenting accurately to ensure all requirements are valid and trackable
- Build and maintain good business relationships with all stakeholders to develop business system and share knowledge across the team and wider business
- Perform data collection and analysis to support the development of business cases and provide analysis updates to ensure delivery within agreed timescales and budget
- Act as the main point of contact for the wider business teams to provide proactive support to investigate issues and perform impact analysis
- Contribute to project governance including status reporting and risk & issue management
- Develop and report performance data for compliance and alignment with the deployment plan to support the management of change, risk, opportunity and governance
- Produce reports and analysis to inform future requirements, including analysis of progress and identifying actions for corrective actions
- Support business change activities providing content and review where appropriate
- Work with contractors to resolve contract issues and conflicts
- Work closely with contractors and attend regular meetings to capture updates and data impacting contract performance
- Assist the programme manager in the administration of the contract
- Raise and receive Early Warning notices and Compensation events via ‘Cemar’ and progress to resolution and/or escalation
- Compile data on spreadsheets relating to contract performance
What do you need?
Skills, Qualifications & Competencies
- Experience in the water industry or closely related industries (e.g. Energy/Telecoms etc)
- Experience of delivery within a contract and technical environment
- Experience developing strong relationships across all areas of the business
- Experience of working with contractors and third‑party suppliers to drive excellent performance under contract clauses
- Experience of working in a fast‑paced project management environment
- Experience in developing innovative solutions to deliver effective outcomes
- Experience in extracting, collating, analysis and presentation of data for all aspects of Business Analysis
- Technologically literate with experience in use of BI, SharePoint, Teams, MS Office (Excel/Word)
- Ability to identify trends from complex data and establish the root cause of issues efficiently
- Strong communication skills with the ability to interact with a broad range of stakeholders
- Maintain control documents and ensure accuracy
- Educated or working towards degree level or equivalent in a relevant subject (or equivalent experience)
- Experience in the administration and execution of NEC4 contracts
- Hold a full UK driving licence
