Overview
Judge the role of a Junior Negotiator in the Global Contract Services Team (Macro-Distribution) of the Markets Legal Department. The key purpose is to oversee and manage transactional processes, ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements while maintaining accurate documentation for financial transactions.
Responsibilities
- Conduct Transaction Services and Documentation activities in compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
- Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders (legal counsel, credit risk management, other departments) to ensure transactions are executed in a timely and efficient manner.
- Create, review, negotiate and manage legal documents such as loan agreements, security documents and other transactional documents.
- Prepare transaction summaries, conduct due diligence and provide support to other departments as needed.
- Develop and implement transaction processes and procedures to ensure consistency across transactions.
- Identify, communicate and provide legal advice on applicable laws, rules and regulations (LRRs).
- Monitor changes to LRRs in the relevant coverage area and ensure they are reflected within policies, standards and controls.
- Manage risk and strengthen controls related to the work you own or contribute to.
- Advise and influence decision making within your area of expertise.
- Escalate breaches of policies/procedures appropriately.
- Take ownership for embedding new policies/procedures adopted due to risk mitigation.
- Maintain and continually build an understanding of how your sub‑function integrates with the wider function, and how areas coordinate to achieve organisational objectives.
- Guide and persuade team members and communicate complex or sensitive information.
- Act as a contact point for stakeholders outside of the immediate function, building a network of contacts internally and externally.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree (preferably in law).
- Contract negotiation background and/or 1+ year of financial services experience, ideally with ISDA negotiation experience.
- Competence in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
- Knowledge of ISDA documentation and experience with Master Trading Netting Agreements.
- Legal qualification in Scotland, England & Wales or another applicable jurisdiction (highly valued).
- Language skills: French, Italian or Spanish speaker preferred.
- Strong analytical, risk and controls, change and transformation, business acumen, strategic thinking, digital and technology skills.
Work Environment
The role is located in Glasgow and is at entry/junior level (GCS Junior Negotiator – BA4). It focuses on the ISDA documentation but may require service to all coverage areas within EMEA.
