About the Role
We are recruiting for a SEMH Teaching Assistant / Learning Support Assistant to join a specialist school supporting primary and secondary‑aged pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. This specialist setting provides a nurturing and supportive environment for pupils with SEMH needs. With small class sizes, a personalised approach to learning and a strong focus on wellbeing, staff work together to help young people build confidence, resilience and positive outcomes. Following a successful 12‑week placement, you will transfer directly onto the school’s permanent staff team.
- Supporting pupils with SEMH needs
- Helping students regulate emotions and develop positive learning behaviours
- Working closely with teaching staff to deliver structured classroom support
- Acting as a consistent, positive role model for vulnerable learners
- Supporting engagement in lessons, routines and school life
- Building strong, trusting relationships to promote emotional wellbeing and progress

Requirements
- Experience working with children or young people (education, care, youth work or similar)
- GCSE Maths & English (required)
- Calm, patient and resilient approach
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to manage challenging behaviour positively
- Commitment to safeguarding and pupil wellbeing
- Passion for supporting young people with SEMH needs
