Job Description Summary
We are seeking to appoint a dedicated, resilient and compassionate Teaching Assistant Level 2 to provide 1:1 support for a pupil in Key Stage Two with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs who has an Education, Health and Care Plan.
The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting the pupil to access learning, develop positive relationships and achieve their individual EHCP outcomes. Working closely with the class teacher, SENDCo, Inclusion Team and external professionals, you will provide consistent support to promote emotional regulation, engagement and wellbeing throughout the school day.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide dedicated 1:1 support for a pupil with SEMH needs.
- Build a trusting, positive and professional relationship with the pupil.
- Support the implementation of strategies identified within the EHCP and behaviour support plans.
- Assist the pupil to access learning activities and participate fully in school life.
- Promote emotional regulation, independence and social skills development.
- Support the management of challenging behaviour using agreed approaches and de‑escalation techniques.
- Work collaboratively with teaching staff, parents/carers and external agencies.
- Maintain accurate records and contribute to reviews of pupil progress and provision.
- Uphold safeguarding and welfare responsibilities at all times.

- Has experience working with children with SEMH needs and/or challenging behaviour.

- Has strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Is committed to inclusive practice and ensuring every child can succeed.
- Understands the importance of consistency, nurture and restorative approaches.
- Is able to adapt support strategies to meet individual needs.
Desirable
- Previous experience supporting pupils with SEMH needs.
- Relevant behaviour, trauma-informed practice or de‑escalation training.
- Knowledge of EHCPs and SEND processes.
