In this role, you will lead high-impact waste development and circular economy initiatives across a diverse partnership of six London boroughs. You will manage a delegated budget and oversee complex multi-stakeholder projects that directly shape the future of waste collection services and regional sustainability. This is an excellent opportunity for a professional passionate about driving real-world change and being able to provide expert waste legislation advisory support in a fast-paced collaborative environment.
What You’ll Do
- Project manage and coordinate multiple complex waste and recycling initiatives, ensuring they align with our business plan and the waste agendas for our borough partners.
- Assist the Head of Municipal Waste Development and the wider Development and Transformation team in forging long-term collaborations with our six borough partners, acting as a trusted programme lead and advisor.
- Support and steer the development of innovative collection service initiatives and pilots, ensuring operational efficiency and alignment with best practices.
- Maintain full responsibility for the delegated project/programme budget and provide robust oversight for project-related contracts.
- Offer expert advice to both internal and external stakeholders, helping to navigate technical challenges and policy requirements.
- Provide direct line management to a Project Manager and offer project oversight/guidance to our Data Team, ensuring data-driven decision making across all workstreams.
Who You Are
- You have a proven track record in project and programme management; ideally within waste management, local government and infrastructure development.
- A natural connector: You have proven track records of managing stakeholders across diverse sectors- you can speak the language of both high-level policy makers and grassroots community organisers.
- You have experience in service transformation and a deep understanding of circular economy principles.
- You are comfortable with delegated budget responsibility and have experience managing third-party contracts.
- You are a supportive leader who enjoys developing direct reports and collaborating cross-functionally with technical teams (such as data or developers).
- You thrive in an advisory capacity, providing clear direction and solving problems in real-time to keep initiatives on track.
Why Join Us?
- You will have a real impact from day one, and you will see your work in action every day. Your initiative will directly reduce waste and support the local community.
- This is a growth-focused role where you have the autonomy to support and manage circular economy models.
- You will be joining a team committed to a sustainable future, backed by a collaborative culture that values environmental stewardship and get to learn from a team with shared beliefs.
- You will have access to a flexible working environment, hybrid working, the Local Government Pension Scheme, 28 days of annual leave plus bank holidays, and ongoing personal development.
