Assistant Project Manager – Major Infrastructure Programme

Contract Length: Until September 2026

Client: Major Public Sector organisation

Locations: Manchester or York

Hybrid Working: 3 days per week onsite

Rate: Up to £321 per day (Umbrella, Inside IR35)

An Interim, delivery-focused, Assistant Project Manager to join a major infrastructure programme supporting the development and implementation of large-scale transportation projects.

This is an opportunity to work within a complex, high-profile environment where you will help drive projects from development through to delivery, managing stakeholders, contracts, risks, and programme objectives across a fast-paced portfolio.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the development and delivery of major infrastructure projects and programmes.
  • Manage project scope, risks, dependencies, and governance activities throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Engage effectively with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, building strong working relationships.
  • Monitor project performance against time, cost, quality, and safety objectives.
  • Support commercial and contract management activities, ensuring supplier and contractor performance is effectively managed.
  • Contribute to programme reporting, decision-making, and strategic planning activities.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant safety, regulatory, and project governance requirements.
  • Work collaboratively within a complex matrix environment to drive successful project outcomes.

Essential Experience

  • Demonstrable experience delivering major infrastructure or transportation projects.
  • Experience working within large-scale programmes from development through to implementation.
  • Strong project management capability within complex, multi-stakeholder environments.
  • Knowledge of construction project safety management and relevant Health & Safety legislation.
  • Commercial awareness with experience managing contracts and supplier relationships.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement, communication, and influencing skills.
  • Self-motivated, proactive, and able to operate effectively with limited supervision.
  • Experience managing ambiguity, competing priorities, and programme complexity.
