Overview
HMP Nottingham Futures Campaign hires prison officers for a 23-month deployment at HMP Deerbolt, after which you will return permanently to HMP Nottingham.
The role covers shift work, including evenings, nights, weekends and public holidays.

Responsibilities
- Protect the public and safeguard prisoners.
- Carry out a range of roles such as peace-keeper, counsellor, teacher and other duties as required.
- Build constructive, positive and professional relationships with prisoners.
- Work various shifts, including weekends and public holidays.
- Support and work fully as part of a team to keep prison, prisoners and staff safe.
Qualifications
- Minimum age 18.
- Meet Civil Service nationality requirements (UK, Republic of Ireland, Commonwealth, EU/EEA, etc.).
- Pass a medical and fitness assessment, including eyesight (both eyed) and hearing (without hearing aids).
- Strong communication and influencing skills.
- Effective decision‑making ability.
- Empathy, self‑confidence, resilience.
Additional Information
The application process includes an online test (basic judgement and numerical skills, followed by a values‑based assessment), an online assessment centre, and medical and fitness tests.
Applicants will be assessed on behaviours such as communicating and influencing, managing a quality service, and caring. Numerical, written English and spoken English abilities are also assessed.
Applicants who have been out of the UK for up to one year may still be considered for vetting clearance.
