About this job

This apprenticeship is the level 3 Heavy Vehicle Service & Maintenance Technician standard programme with Wales & West Truck & Bus (Volvo) in Bristol, BS10 7GD. As an apprentice, you will learn how to maintain and repair large commercial vehicles to manufacturer and DVSA standards.

What you’ll learn

  • Carry out vehicle servicing and safety inspections.
  • Perform general and preventative maintenance.
  • Repair and replace parts on trucks and buses.
  • Use modern equipment to diagnose faults.
  • Understand important rules around vehicle safety, legal checks and Operator (O) licences.
  • Receive a mix of academic learning and on‑the‑job training.
  • Shadow a mentor and carry out work under supervision.
  • Attend online studies, complete workbooks and job cards, and virtual classes during working hours.
  • Participate in block‑release training at the Volvo Training Academy in Derby every 2 months.

Qualifications

No previous automotive qualifications are needed. You must have GCSE 9-4 (A‑C) or Functional Skills Level 2 in English and Maths. Predicted/Mock grades are acceptable at application stage.
