ENT Consultant Surgeon – Otology

This is a full‑time ENT consultant post with a special interest in Otology and Lateral Skull Base Surgery. The post holder will also carry out general ENT surgery as required.

The post will be based at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospitals, with work also carried out at King’s College Hospital and any other Trust site as required.

The post holder will take an active part in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and training, contribute to the management of the clinical service and service development, and participate in clinical activities to ensure a high standard of patient care.

Main duties of the job

  • The post holder must be medically/dentally qualified and maintain GMC or GDC specialist registration and hold a licence to practise.
  • Develop and maintain the competencies required to carry out the duties of the role.
  • Ensure prompt attendance at agreed direct clinical care programmed activities.
  • Ensure patients are involved in decisions about their care and respond to their views.
  • Participate in on‑call duties (1:15).

Job responsibilities

Responsibilities include the provision of ENT services across the Trust, diagnosis and treatment of patients, maintaining clinical responsibility for patients in your charge, and delegation and training of staff. The post holder will also contribute to research, teaching, performance management, medical staff management, governance, strategy, business planning, leadership and team working.

Clinical commitments at Lewisham Surgical Centre include cover of theatre lists on Thursdays, week 2 & 4.

Professional Qualifications

  • Full GMC registration with licence to practise and entry on the Specialist Register, or within 6 months of CCT.
  • Evidence of continuing professional/personal development.

Clinical Experience

  • Comprehensive clinical experience in adult ENT surgery sufficient to undertake general practice.
  • Significant experience in Otology.

Clinical Skills

  • Commitment to multidisciplinary practice, working with other specialities and intensive care departments.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, patients and relatives.

Research, Teaching skill & experience

  • Understanding of clinical research principles and a demonstrable aptitude for department research goals.
  • Proven research ability at national level.
  • Proven teaching skills and commitment to junior doctors’ training.
  • Experience of medical audit in ENT.
  • Publications in the specialist field of Otology.
  • Teaching qualification.

£113,565 to £150,569 per year (excluding London Zone)
