Head Veterinary Nurse

  • Location: Barnsley

  • Hours: Full time – 40 hours per week
  • Salary: £33,000–£40,000 per annum (DOE)

The opportunity

A well-established small animal practice in Barnsley is looking to appoint an experienced and motivated Head Nurse to lead its nursing team. This is an excellent opportunity for a confident veterinary nurse who enjoys leadership, teamwork, and maintaining high clinical and customer care standards.

The Head Nurse will play a central role in supporting, guiding, and developing the nursing team, ensuring the smooth day-to-day running of the practice while fostering a positive and collaborative working environment.

The ideal candidate

The practice is seeking a candidate with solid clinical experience who is:

  • Confident and self-motivated
  • Approachable, engaging, and supportive
  • Passionate about mentoring and developing RVNs, student nurses, and VCAs
  • Comfortable leading by example and supporting team performance

The role includes both clinical and leadership responsibilities, with a strong focus on team development, organisation, and maintaining excellent standards of patient care.

Working pattern

  • 4 days per week
  • 9-hour shifts
  • 1 in 4 weekends
  • Duty nights on a rotational basis
