Associate Dean Research (ADR)

Location: Coal Drops Yard campus, Kings Cross, London.

Role Overview

Central Saint Martins, UAL seeks a dynamic and highly experienced academic to lead research strategy and delivery across the College. The ADR will shape UAL Research and Knowledge Exchange strategy, support inclusive research environments, and contribute to a vibrant research culture.

Responsibilities

• Shape UAL Research and Knowledge Exchange strategy and ensure its delivery across the College.
• Foster an inclusive, ethical, visible research environment through support for communities of practice, research labs, groups, and centres.
• Lead support for the growing postgraduate research community at CSM, working closely with the UAL Doctoral School.
• Assist the three constituent Schools in setting and achieving ambitious research and impact goals.
• Play a key role in the delivery of REF 2029 at CSM and across UAL.
• Maintain an active academic and artistic practice and support colleagues to develop theirs.
• Contribute to a vibrant research and Knowledge Exchange culture that reflects the College’s creative mission.

Qualifications

• PhD or significant demonstrable research record.
• Strong track record in higher education, including understanding of PGR, research funding, and REF processes.
• Experienced leader and manager with proven ability to manage resources, influence strategy, and plan operational activities.
• Engaging, adaptable, and accessible communicator.
• Experience building effective teams and cross‑organisational networks.
• Genuine commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion.
• Record of research, scholarly activity, or professional practice in your specialist area.
• Ability to apply expertise to develop and drive research across the institution.
