NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is one of the largest healthcare systems in the United Kingdom, employing approximately 40,000 staff across a wide range of clinical and non‑clinical professions and roles. The Role
The postholder must be educated to degree level or have equivalent experience, with current NMC registration and preferably experience working with the service target audience (young people aged 12‑19). Excellent communication skills, experience of making sound clinical judgements and previous staff management experience are essential for this role.
This post is for 0.5 WTE x 2 Nurse Team Leads (18 hrs per week) and will complement the existing post holders (1.0 WTE). There will be shared responsibility for managing the team of nurses who deliver clinical and non‑clinical support to young people aged 12‑19. The service is delivered in 9 venues across Glasgow City in the evenings with access to an on‑call system during service delivery. Post holders will participate in the on‑call rota, support the duty system as required and assist with cover for annual leave for the venue band 6 nurses.
Duration, Location, and Working Pattern
- Location: Gartnavel Royal Hospital, with travel to venues across the city in the evenings.
- Contract: Permanent.
- Working pattern: 18 hours per week, over three days – Monday to Friday, occasional evening delivery to 9.30pm as required.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the Service Manager with ongoing service innovation delivery, development and review.
- Lead and/or contribute to service redesign and implement service developments.
- Advise and support the Service Manager in implementing NHS & GCC terms and conditions of service, policies and procedures.
- Apply relevant organisational policies and procedures including the National Workload Tool.
- Provide vision, management advice and support to the YHS nursing team to ensure a proactive, effective and positive culture.
- With input from professional leads, deliver leadership necessary to develop and support the nursing team.
- Promote excellent patient-centred, safe and effective care, respecting the individuality, values, cultural and religious diversity of young people.
- Ensure professional networks are maintained and learning is communicated to the team and wider teams in the HSCP and partner agencies.
- Ensure all nurses are compliant with NMC Code: Professional Standards of Practice and Behaviour for Nurses and Midwives (2015) and that staff registration and revalidation meet NMC requirements.
Essential Qualifications and Training
- 1st level registered nurse with NMC registration.
- Post‑graduate qualification or specialist knowledge gained through relevant community or Primary Care experience.
- Degree or equivalent experience.
- Live NMC UK pin.
Management Experience
- Evidence of relevant training, education and experience at team leader/supervisory level within the NHS.
- Experience of multidisciplinary work within organisation, across organisations and with external organisations and service user groups.
- Experience of change management including supporting the design and delivery of new services.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Proven track record in effective leadership – communication, negotiation, persuasion, influencing and challenging behaviours.
- Proven track record in effective management – resolving interpersonal conflict, problem solving, prioritisation, planning and organisational skills.
- Knowledge of relevant legislation.
- Ability to interpret national policy and develop complex systems of care through a variety of stakeholders.
- Ability to coach, support and deal with conflict and performance issues.
- Awareness of budget management.
- Report writing skills.
- Literate in current IT techniques.
