Content Designer

Role Purpose

The Content Designer responsible for creating, structuring, and optimising user-centred content across digital pensions products and services.

This role focuses on delivering clear, accessible, and compliant content that helps users understand complex pensions information and make informed decisions about their retirement.

Working with defined direction, the role contributes to content strategy, supports service delivery, and ensures consistency in tone, style, and messaging across pensions journeys.

Key Responsibilities

Content Design & Development

  • Create and maintain user-focused content for pensions platforms, including:
  • Member dashboards
  • Pension enrolment journeys
  • Contributions and fund selection
  • Retirement planning and drawdown options
  • Translate complex pensions terminology and financial concepts into plain, understandable language.
  • Structure content for digital channels, ensuring clarity, usability, and accessibility.

User-Centred Content

  • Apply user-centred design principles to ensure content meets user needs.
  • Use insights from user research and usability testing to improve content effectiveness.
  • Design content that supports decision-making in high-impact financial contexts.

Pensions Domain Application

  • Support content across key pensions journeys:
  • Auto-enrolment communications
  • Pension transfers and consolidation
  • Retirement options and decumulation
  • Ensure content reflects regulatory and compliance requirements within pensions.
  • Adapt tone and messaging for different users (e.g., members, employers, administrators).

Collaboration & Delivery

  • Work closely with UX designers, researchers, product managers, compliance teams, and developers.
  • Contribute to agile delivery teams, ensuring content is integrated into the design and development lifecycle.
  • Participate in content reviews, sprint activities, and design critiques.

Content Standards & Governance

  • Follow and contribute to content design standards, style guides, and design systems.
  • Ensure all content aligns with:
  • Accessibility standards (e.g., WCAG)
  • Plain English principles
  • FCA and pensions regulatory expectations
  • Maintain consistency across all digital touchpoints.

Continuous Improvement

  • Use analytics, feedback, and usability findings to improve content performance.
  • Identify opportunities to improve clarity, engagement, and user outcomes.
  • Support ongoing optimisation of pensions content and services.

Skills & Experience

Essential Skills

  • Experience in content design, UX writing, or digital content creation.
  • Experience working within pensions, retirement services, or financial services.
  • Ability to write clear, concise, and user-focused content, especially for complex topics.
  • Understanding of plain English and accessibility principles.
  • Experience collaborating in multidisciplinary teams.
  • Familiarity with content management systems (CMS) and digital platforms.

Desirable Skills

  • Understanding of the UK pensions landscape (e.g., defined contribution, auto-enrolment).
  • Knowledge of FCA regulations and Consumer Duty principles.
  • Experience conducting or supporting content testing and usability research.
  • Familiarity with design systems and content pattern libraries.
  • Basic understanding of SEO and digital analytics tools.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Communications, English, UX Design, Journalism, or related field (or equivalent experience).
