Category Manager – Professional Services

Salary: £75,000 + up to 10% bonus

Location: London (2 days per week)

The Organisation

My client is a large, globally recognised charitable organisation with a strong commercial mindset and significant long-term investment plans. The organisation funds research, influences policy and builds partnerships to improve health outcomes worldwide.

They are currently transforming their procurement function, moving to a centralised, category-led operating model. This role is a key hire within that change programme.

The Role

The Category Manager – Professional Services will partner with senior internal teams responsible for delivering the organisation’s mission. This is a strategic role, responsible for embedding category management for the first time across a complex and high-impact spend area.

The portfolio is predominantly scientific and professional services, including externally commissioned research and specialist advisory services that inform major investment decisions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver end-to-end category strategies for professional and scientific services
  • Lead complex sourcing activity from strategy through to contract award and mobilisation
  • Act as a trusted commercial partner to senior budget holders
  • Manage supplier relationships, performance, risk and value delivery
  • Embed best-practice procurement governance and processes
  • Support the transition to a centralised procurement model
  • Line-manage and develop Procurement Officers within the team

Candidate Profile

  • Proven experience delivering category management end to end, including senior stakeholder engagement
  • Strong commercial capability across contract development and negotiation
  • Comfortable operating in change environments with shifting priorities
  • Strong relationship-building and influencing skills
  • Background in private-sector or commercially focused procurement
  • Line-management experience or readiness to step into people leadership

Desirable:

  • CIPS qualification
