This is not a general classroom support role.
We are working with a mainstream primary school with a well‑established on‑site SEN Unit, seeking a high‑quality SEN Teaching Assistant with proven experience supporting pupils with complex, high‑level needs.
The role is two days per week and would suit someone highly skilled in SEN practice who thrives in a specialist environment while remaining part of a wider school community.
The Role

This includes:
- Supporting pupils with complex SEN needs (e.g. autism, SEMH, communication needs, sensory processing differences)
- Delivering high‑quality 1:1 and small‑group support
- Supporting regulation, behaviour, and emotional wellbeing
- Following and implementing EHCP targets and specialist strategies
- Working collaboratively with the SENCo, specialist staff, and external professionals
- Maintaining high standards of safeguarding, care, and professionalism
- Supporting pupils to access mainstream opportunities where appropriate
This role requires confidence, emotional intelligence, and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
Who We’re Looking For
This position is only suitable for candidates with previous high‑needs SEN experience.
You will:
- Have direct experience working with pupils with complex or high‑needs SEN
- Be calm, resilient, and consistent in your approach
- Understand behaviour as communication
- Be confident working in a specialist SEN environment
- Communicate clearly with staff, families, and professionals
- Be reliable and committed to consistency for vulnerable pupils
Relevant training (e.g. autism support, Team Teach, therapeutic approaches) is advantageous, but experience matters most.
