Highway Inspector – North East Lincolnshire
Exciting opportunity for a reliable and experienced Highway Inspector to join our highway maintenance team. The role ensures the safe condition of the highway network, assists with reactive maintenance works and statutory inspections in line with the Highways Act 1980.
Key Responsibilities
- Inspect, investigate and order necessary works to maintain the highway network safely.
- Conform to relevant legislation, policy and codes of practice for highway maintenance.
- Maintain accurate inspection and maintenance records to support statutory defence in case of legal claims.
- Investigate third‑party insurance claims, provide inspection records and attend court as necessary.
- Liaise with elected members, the public, emergency services and neighbouring authorities.
- Inspect works completed by in‑house teams, contractors and third parties, ensuring compliance with relevant standards.
- Report on the need for substantial works such as resurfacing or reconstruction.
- Assist with enforcement of highway safety legislation and ensure safe working practices on site.
- Contribute to development of new technology, systems, policies and procedures for effective service delivery.
Required Experience and Skills
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in highway inspection or a related discipline.
- Highway or civil engineering construction methods and maintenance treatments.
- Experience using specialist IT software systems, databases and spreadsheets (desirable).
- Managing own workload, working methodically and maintaining accurate records.
- Performing dynamic risk assessments and maintaining a professional approach.
- Holding a Highway Inspection Qualification (desirable).
- Streetworks Supervisors Accreditation (desirable).
- A full UK driving licence and ability to travel independently.
