Bennett & Game are proud to be partnering with a well-established and highly respected multidisciplinary consultancy who are seeking an experienced Principal Structural Engineer to join their growing Structures team.

This is an excellent opportunity for a Chartered, or near-Chartered, Structural Engineer looking to take the next step in their career within a collaborative and technically strong environment. The successful candidate will play a key role in leading projects, mentoring junior engineers, managing client relationships and contributing to the continued growth of the structures division.

Principal Structural Engineer Job Overview

  • Lead structural engineering projects from inception through to completion
  • Manage project delivery, budgets, resources and programme requirements
  • Supervise, mentor and develop engineers and technicians within the team
  • Prepare and review structural designs across a range of building sectors
  • Undertake site visits, feasibility studies and risk assessments
  • Produce preliminary layouts, technical specifications and design solutions
  • Liaise directly with clients, architects, contractors and multidisciplinary project teams
  • Attend project meetings and provide technical leadership throughout the project lifecycle
  • Assess sustainability and environmental considerations within project designs
  • Ensure compliance with statutory requirements, regulations and health & safety standards
  • Develop and maintain strong client relationships
  • Support fee proposal preparation, bid submissions and business development activities
  • Contribute to the strategic growth and development of the structures team

Principal Structural Engineer Job Requirements

  • Degree qualified in Structural or Civil Engineering
  • Chartered Engineer status, or actively working towards Chartership
  • Minimum 8 years’ post‑graduate structural design experience
  • Strong experience designing in steel, concrete, timber and masonry
  • Experience delivering refurbishment and new‑build projects
  • Ability to develop schematic structural designs from architectural layouts
  • Strong understanding of structural design principles and project delivery
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to manage client relationships and lead project teams effectively
  • Commercial awareness with experience managing project finances
  • Strong report writing and technical documentation skills
  • Collaborative approach with the ability to work across multidisciplinary teams
