Setting Out Engineer (Civils)

RSS are currently looking for a Civil biased Setting Out Engineer to work on a significant infrastructure project in Birmingham. The work will have a blend of heavy civils, structures and highways elements. This is a freelance position with a potential duration of two years for the right candidate.

Responsibilities

• Deal with design issues
• Deal with technical/design queries
• Liaise with others to ensure safe systems of work are implemented
• Monitor construction of works and ensure quality standards are met
• Offer technical advice on construction to subcontractors, managers and trades
• Manage the site and parts of construction projects from drawings
• Oversee building work and ensure quality meets the technical specifications
• Occasionally set out, level and survey the site using Total Station
• Ensure the plans, drawings and quantities are accurate for calculations
• Manage the design documents supplied by the client
• Report progress and other updates back to management team
• Plan the work efficiently and adapt to changes in designs

Qualifications and Requirements

• Minimum 3–5 years experience as a Setting Out engineer (Civil)
• HND or BEng Civil Engineering (or associated degree)
• Some form of highways experience (e.g., kerbs and drainage)
• Knowledge of complementary infrastructure, highways work, heavy civils, concrete structures, groundwork and drainage
• Competent in using Trimble kit with GPS and SPS930
• CSCS card (preferable)
• SSSTS or SMSTS (desirable)
• Handback ticket (nice to have)
• Two checkable references
