RSS are currently looking for a Civil biased Setting Out Engineer to work on a significant infrastructure project in Birmingham. The work will have a blend of heavy civils, structures and highways elements. This is a freelance position with a potential duration of two years for the right candidate.
Responsibilities
- Deal with design issues
- Deal with technical/design queries
- Liaise with others to ensure safe systems of work are implemented
- Monitor construction of works and ensure quality standards are met
- Offer technical advice on construction to subcontractors, managers and trades
- Manage the site and parts of construction projects from drawings
- Oversee building work and ensure quality meets the technical specifications
- Occasionally set out, level and survey the site using Total Station
- Ensure the plans, drawings and quantities are accurate for calculations
- Manage the design documents supplied by the client
- Report progress and other updates back to management team
- Plan the work efficiently and adapt to changes in designs
Qualifications and Requirements
- Minimum 3–5 years experience as a Setting Out engineer (Civil)
- HND or BEng Civil Engineering (or associated degree)
- Some form of highways experience (e.g., kerbs and drainage)
- Knowledge of complementary infrastructure, highways work, heavy civils, concrete structures, groundwork and drainage
- Competent in using Trimble kit with GPS and SPS930
- CSCS card (preferable)
- SSSTS or SMSTS (desirable)
- Handback ticket (nice to have)
- Two checkable references
