Clinical Nurse Specialist (Cystic Fibrosis)

We are looking for an experienced respiratory nurse with vision and enthusiasm to join our Cystic Fibrosis Multidisciplinary Team. The 0.6 WTE role offers an opportunity to develop clinical expertise in managing chronic health needs and providing psychosocial support to families.

Main duties of the job

  • Conduct good clinical assessment, support decision‑making, and escalation of care.
  • Teach families and support their development.
  • Coordinate and manage the transition to adult healthcare pathway for children and young people with CF from age 12.
  • Provide clinical care, respiratory assessment, education and psychosocial support in outreach settings, including home, school and local hospitals.
  • Work alongside other CNSs to manage caseload of approximately 200 children and young people in inpatient and outpatient settings.
  • Manage care over email/telephone and participate in multidisciplinary clinical and psychosocial meetings.
  • Participate in quality improvement projects, service evaluation and support ward staff to deliver evidence‑based practice.

Person Specification

Qualifications and Registration

  • Registered with the NMC, Children’s Nursing section.
  • Possession of a relevant honours degree or equivalent.
  • Possession of a relevant Masters degree or in process of completing.
  • Experience at Band 6 level or equivalent.
  • Evidence of ongoing continuing professional development linked to clinical competencies.
  • Assessing and mentoring qualification.

Experience/Knowledge

  • Experience within a relevant clinical environment for Band 6 level.
  • Knowledge of professional issues in children’s nursing and healthcare (e.g., Laming Report, Francis Report, CNO’s vision for Compassion in Practice).
  • Previous experience of change management and problem solving.
  • Understanding of resource management, health and safety, clinical risk and quality issues.
  • Knowledge of child protection procedures, handling clinical incidents and complaints.
  • Evidence of fulfilling PREP.
  • Expert knowledge within the specialty/field or practice.
  • Experience of leading and managing a team.
  • Experience of research and audit.
  • Experience of working as a CNS or within a CF service.

Contract and Working Pattern

Contract: Permanent

Salary: £58,133 to £65,261 a year (pro rata per annum inclusive)
