The Haematology Nurse Specialist will support the provision of Level 2b Haematology services, ensuring a co‑ordinated, comprehensive and holistic service for patients with a Haematological diagnosis.
- Be an integral member of the multiprofessional team, providing specialist nursing support for staff, patients and their carers.
- Support the Haematology multiprofessional team in the implementation of novel SACT regimens and new commercial and non-commercial clinical trials.
- Act as the keyworker for patients with a Haematological malignancy throughout the disease trajectory.
- Undertake nurse‑led follow‑up clinics with consultant oversight.
- Provide close liaison with hospitals where referrals are received, including units treating patients requiring intensive treatment such as CAR T‑cell therapy, stem cell and bone marrow transplantation.
- Facilitate links between the Trust’s hospitals and community services, ensuring continuity of care through a coordinated referral system.
- Work alongside the Lead Haematology Nurse and MHDC team to deliver an excellent patient‑focused service.
- Facilitate the delivery of systemic anticancer therapy (SACT), supporting and training junior staff to ensure safe delivery of complex drug regimens.
- Provide personalised care throughout the cancer journey for patients with Haematological malignancy.
- Undertake nurse‑led telephone follow‑up clinics with MDT support and consultant supervision.
