Industrial Electrician / Mechanical Fitter (Multi‑Skilled – Machine Tools)

Location: Excel Machine Tools, UK

Hours: 39 hours per week

Working Pattern:

Monday to Thursday: 08:30 – 17:00

Friday: 08:30 – 16:00 (early finish)

Employment Type: Full-time, Permanent

Salary: Competitive rate of pay (depending on experience)

Due to continued growth, we are looking to recruit an experienced and motivated multi‑skilled Industrial Electrician / Mechanical Fitter to support our workshop operations and machine commissioning.

The Role

We are looking for a multi‑skilled engineer with both electrical and mechanical experience to join our team.

The successful candidate will be responsible for testing, fault‑finding, assembling and commissioning a wide range of industrial machines and equipment.

This is a hands‑on role, ideal for someone who enjoys problem‑solving across both electrical systems and mechanical components, and working with complete machines from set‑up through to final testing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Checking, testing and preparing industrial machinery including milling machines, lathes, saws, grinding machines and other equipment
  • Fault‑finding, diagnostics and repair across both electrical and mechanical systems
  • Commissioning machinery to ensure safe and correct operation
  • Working with 3‑phase electrical systems
  • Mechanical assembly, alignment and set‑up of machinery
  • Interpreting and working from electrical wiring diagrams and mechanical drawings
  • Panel wiring including control circuits, relay logic and machine wiring
  • Supporting continuous improvement and workshop standards
  • Ensuring all work complies with relevant safety regulations and company standards

Essential Skills & Experience

To be successful in this role, you must have:

  • Proven experience in an industrial / engineering environment
  • Strong electrical knowledge (including 3‑phase systems)
  • Solid mechanical fitting / assembly experience
  • Ability to read and interpret both electrical and mechanical drawings
  • Experience with fault‑finding across electrical and mechanical systems
  • A hands‑on, practical approach with strong attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Desirable / Future‑Focused Skills (Not Essential)

  • Experience working on machine tools or similar industrial equipment
  • Experience using Electrical CAD software for schematics
  • Knowledge of BS EN 60204‑1:2018 (Safety of machinery – Electrical equipment of machines)
  • Awareness of EN ISO 13849‑1 relating to machine safety control systems
