Job Summary
An excellent development opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and committed individual to gain specialised skills in a clinical role working on an Acute Unit. We are looking for a motivated clinical pharmacy technician to join our diverse team to support the Ward Based Clinical Pharmacy Technician service and rotate between shift patterns of 08:00‑16:15 and 10:45‑19:00.
You will integrate into the ward multidisciplinary team assisting in medication reconciliation at clerking, discharge planning, TTO medicine supply and patient counselling. Additional duties include assessment of patients’ own drugs, audits, medication ordering, dispensing and checking of supplies. The post requires a self‑motivated candidate with excellent organisational skills, a strong team‑working ethic and the ability to work within a multidisciplinary team.
Main Duties, Tasks & Skills Required
Provide near‑patient medicine management services as part of our ward-based team across 7 days, ensuring cost‑effective and efficient services throughout patients’ stay. Participate in extended hours, including weekend work, bank holidays and late nights on a rotational basis.
Qualifications
Essential:
- At least one year’s post‑qualification experience in a hospital setting
- Nationally recognised Pharmacy Technician qualification, registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)
- Accredited accuracy checking qualification
- Flexible approach to accommodate service needs
Desirable:
- Experience demonstrating a good understanding of ward‑based services
- Accredited Checking Technician (National Framework)
Experience
Essential:
- Two years’ pre‑qualification pharmacy experience
- Currently practising as a Band 4 pharmacy technician or equivalent with post‑qualification experience within an acute setting
- Significant experience within a pharmacy setting and specialist function for area of responsibility
- Experience organising other grades of staff and their workload
- Experienced in working to policies and procedures
- Understanding of Good Distribution Practice (GDP), Health and Safety at Work, COSHH and dispensing, stock control, supply and IT systems
- Knowledge of medicines, side effects, Code of Practice / Customer Care and practices, policies and procedures associated with the job
- Understanding of delivering a cost‑effective service and required work practices to reduce waste
Desirable:
- Experience working as a Clinical Pharmacy Technician or similar capacity
- Deputising for senior personnel, coordinating daily workflow including situational staff management
- Experience in setting up new working practices or procedures
- Participation in the training and mentoring of staff
- Understanding of ward environment

Salary: £32,073.00 to £39,043.00 per year.
