Rehab Support Worker

We are looking for a Rehabilitation Support Worker to join our specialist, multi‑disciplinary team offering a specially tailored programme for service users with Functional Neurological Disorder (FND). The FiND Service operates a 2‑day‑per‑week programme (two cohorts: Mon‑Tue and Thu‑Fri) lasting 3–8 weeks. The role involves delivering a blend of psychological, physical and occupational rehabilitation under the guidance of therapists, including individualised self‑management sessions, physiotherapy support, and educational group presentations.

Main Duties of the Job

  • Develop therapeutic relationships with service users.
  • Collaborate with the Physiotherapist to provide consistent physiotherapy interventions.
  • Deliver self‑management sessions in collaboration with the assistant psychologist under the supervision of the Physiotherapist and CBT Therapist.
  • Deliver educational group presentations on topics relevant to FND.
  • Organise and run group intervention sessions such as gardening groups and physiotherapy workshops.
  • Complete community‑based sessions as directed (e.g., outdoor mobility rehab sessions, community visits).
  • Join team meetings and contribute ideas, observations and reflections.
  • Liaise with other staff and agencies as required.
  • Assist with collecting outcome measures and other relevant data.
  • Collaborate with admin staff to complete departmental administration, including ordering food for patients.
  • Comply with risk assessments, identify risks/risky behaviour, and alert appropriate staff.
  • Complete necessary clinical documentation in accordance with Trust and professional guidelines.
  • Maintain regular cleaning of Physiotherapy equipment in line with Infection Prevention and Control Guidelines.

About Us

You will work day‑to‑day as part of a dedicated team based at Wakefield House on the grounds of the Bethlem Royal Hospital. The team includes a Cognitive Behavioural Therapist, a Physiotherapist, an Assistant Psychologist, a Rehab Support Worker, a Service Administrator, and a dedicated Consultant Neuropsychiatrist. The wider Neuropsychiatry Service provides outpatient and inpatient care across multiple sites in South London.

Job Responsibilities (Key)

  • Develop therapeutic relationships with service users with a diagnosis of FND.
  • Forge and maintain good working relationships with day programme staff and wider trust staff.
  • Collaborate with the Physiotherapist to provide consistent physiotherapy interventions, often without direct supervision.
  • Deliver self‑management sessions in collaboration with the assistant psychologist, supervised by the Physiotherapist and Cognitive Behavioural Therapist.
  • Deliver educational group presentations on topics relevant to FND.
  • Organise and run group intervention sessions such as gardening groups and physiotherapy workshops.
  • Complete community‑based sessions (e.g., outdoor mobility rehabilitation, community visits) following unit protocols regarding lone‑working and community leave.
  • Join team meetings (morning handover, reflective meetings) and proactively contribute ideas, observations and reflections.
  • Liaise with other staff and agencies involved in the care of the service user.
  • Assist with collecting outcome measures and other relevant data.
  • Collaborate with admin staff to complete departmental administration as required (e.g., ordering food for patients).
  • Comply with risk assessments when working with service users, identify risks, and report incidents to the multi‑professional team.
  • Maintain the dignity of service users and uphold confidentiality at all times.
  • Work effectively in clinical situations that may be emotionally demanding.
  • Complete necessary clinical documentation in accordance with Trust and professional guidelines.
  • Engage in personal and professional development through supervision and training.

  • Plan and prioritise own workload following guidance from the supervising Physiotherapist.
  • Maintain equipment and facilities, including cleaning of Physiotherapy equipment.

Person Specification

Qualifications

  • Good general education (minimum GCSE Maths and English grade A–C).
  • 2:1 Honours Degree in Psychology or equivalent.

Experience

  • Experience of working in a healthcare setting.
  • Experience of working with diverse presentations and complex needs.
  • Experience in a rehabilitation setting and knowledge of the rehabilitation process.
  • Experience in a psychology setting.
  • Experience working alongside Physiotherapists.
  • Experience with clients with interpersonal difficulties.
  • Experience working within a multi‑disciplinary team.

Knowledge / Skills

  • Excellent communication skills, including written documentation.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • Ability to form positive relationships with service users and their families.
  • Experience disseminating education or knowledge through presentations.
  • Experience communicating with clients with cognitive or communication difficulties.
