Trainee Gas Engineer

Poole | Salisbury | Bournemouth | Weymouth | New Milton

Salary: £28,200 per annum (increase to £31,300 upon successful completion of the probationary period). Once qualified, earning potential increases with additional paid standby & overtime.

Start date: September 2026.

Responsibilities

• Support engineers on site and learn from them daily during gas service and mains repair activities.
• Perform excavation and digging in public & private highways, laying and repairing gas pipes under various outdoor conditions.
• Participate in essential work to keep gas supply running to millions of people, including standby and overtime for irregular hours.
• Maintain SGN vans and tools before and after each job to ensure safety and efficiency.

Qualifications & Requirements

• No prior experience required; all training and equipment will be provided.
• Curious, eager to learn and develop skills, and open to new knowledge, especially regarding net‑zero energy systems.
• Resilient, able to learn from mistakes and maintain focus.
• Proactive and responsible, taking ownership of service delivery and continuous improvement.
• Adaptable, calm, and able to interact with the public in various situations.
• Comfortable working on a rota with shift patterns, including weekends and nights.
• Must be clean‑shaven, pass a face‑fit test, and wear required protective equipment.
• Holds a valid UK driver’s licence.
• Must be based within a commutable distance from the listed locations due to operational response times.
