Health Care Assistant Levels 2 and 3 – Brain Injury Service
Location: Putney, Southwest London
Contract: Full time or part time, rotating day and night shifts
Hours: 150 hours over a 4 week period (approximately 37.5 hours per week)
Salary: £28,939 – £30,688 per annum (dependent on NVQ Qualification and experience)
Role Summary
Join our brain injury service at RHN as a Health Care Assistant. You will provide person‑centred support, including complex clinical care, communication, behavioural support, and daily living assistance, promoting dignity, independence and quality of life within a supportive environment. You will work closely with residents, families and a multidisciplinary team.
Main Responsibilities
- Demonstrate awareness of RHN’s objectives and contribute to achieving them.
- Show commitment to efficiency and continuous improvement.
- Work as part of the team, assisting registered nurses and other HCAs in direct care of patients within the ward.
- Operate within agreed nursing standards and under the direction of the registered nurse or NVQ healthcare assistant.
- Assist patients with personal hygiene (washing, bathing, dressing, continence, mouth care) enabling independence.
- Assist with mobility—including hoisting, positioning and use of mobility aids.
- Support patients with eating and drinking, including adapted equipment and monitoring intake.
- Communicate effectively with patients and others, especially in challenging situations involving complex communication needs or behavioural/emotional challenges.
- Participate in a 24 h/7‑day roster, including bank holidays, split days off and other flexible arrangements.
Personal Specification – Essential
- Minimum 6 months experience in a health or social care support role.
- GCSE or equivalent qualification.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Good command of written and spoken English.
- Ability to carry out manual handling tasks.
- Willingness to work flexible shift patterns including weekends and nights.
Desirable Experience
- Health or social care related degree or equivalent qualification.
- Previous experience within a multidisciplinary team in health or social care.
