This is a fantastic opportunity for a highly motivated, enthusiastic individual with a passion for healthcare and a strong interest in Orthotics — supporting patients to improve mobility, function, and quality of life through expert clinical care and innovative orthotic provision.

About the Service

At OUH, our Orthotics Service sits at the heart of rehabilitation and long‑term condition management, delivering patient‑centred care across acute, community, and specialist settings. Our work focuses on:

  • Clinical assessment and gait analysis
  • Technical design and prescription of orthoses (bracing and external supports)
  • Provision, fitting, and review of a wide range of orthotic devices
  • Supporting patients with complex neurological, musculoskeletal, and paediatric needs

While this apprenticeship includes exposure to Prosthetics, the role will have a strong Orthotics focus, reflecting the breadth and impact of the orthotic service within OUH.

You will be joining a forward‑thinking, supportive multidisciplinary team of Orthotists, technicians, administrators, and clinicians who are committed to delivering exceptional patient care and continuous service development.

Main duties of the job

You will work closely with our Orthotics team to:

  • Support patient assessments and treatment planning
  • Assist in the design, fitting, and review of orthoses
  • Gain experience across a wide variety of clinical areas, including:
    • Specialist multidisciplinary clinics
    • Acute hospital wards
    • Community clinics
    • Paediatric services, including Orthopaedics and specialist schools

You will have the opportunity to work with diverse patient groups and complex conditions, making a meaningful difference every day.

We are looking for someone who is

  • Highly enthusiastic and motivated, with a genuine passion for Orthotics
  • Interested in delivering high-quality, patient-centred healthcare
  • A strong communicator and team player
  • Eager to learn and develop within a dynamic clinical environment

Training and Development

As an Apprentice Prosthetist/Orthotist, you will:

  • Undertake the University of Derby BSc (Hons) Prosthetics and Orthotics degree apprenticeship (fully funded)
  • Primarily be based within OUH clinical environments, gaining hands‑on experience
  • Attend the University of Derby online lectures and short intensive study blocks (approximately one week per year)
