Position

Senior Health Care Support Worker (SHCSW) band 2-3 progressive within the Surgical Unit at Lymington Hospital, Romsey and Hythe (UHS NHS) Trust.

Responsibilities

  • Support the theatre team, surgeons and anaesthetists during perioperative care in the Theatre Suite.
  • Support clinicians in clinics, perform basic screening observations such as urine analysis and bladder scanning, and assist with minor procedures in the Surgical Outpatient Department.
  • Provide support for clinics at sites in Hythe and Romsey.
  • Work within a close-knit team to deliver safe and effective care.
  • Attend UHS General Hospital for training and development.

The unit operates Monday to Friday; potential for a future weekend service.

Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience

Essential criteria

  • Capable of attaining NVQ level 3 in care with acute units corresponding to specialty or equivalent experience
  • Completed secondary education
  • Ability to move and handle patients and equipment
  • Understanding of acute hospital environment and the role of SHCA
  • Ability to demonstrate clarity and breadth in use of English language
  • Completed care certificate or ability to complete within 6 months of appointment
  • Requirement to be aware of and adhere to the care certificate standards; https://www.hee.nhs.uk/our-work/care-certificate
  • Following completion of training demonstrates the ability to acknowledge changes in the patient’s physical/psychological needs and elevate as appropriate
  • Capable of completing EQUIP training
  • Following training able to provide evidence of training for the safe use of equipment within theatres
  • Following training able to provide evidence of experience of working in the theatre environment
  • Capable of completing core HCSW competencies and additional specific competencies related to area of work within 12 months of appointment
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal), flexible approach, and ability to work on your own initiative.
