We are looking for a professional with strong communication and analytical skills to join Octopus as a Pensions on Divorce Specialist.
In this role, you will take ownership of the pension‑related work within our divorce cases.
This is a client‑facing role where you will act as the primary point of contact throughout the lifecycle of each case. You will oversee the use of our pension calculation tools and technical outputs, while ensuring clients feel supported, informed, and confident during what is often a complex and sensitive period.
About Octopus Money
We’re on a mission to become the most recommended financial services business in the UK. Money shapes every part of life, yet most people never get the support they need. Half of Brits reach retirement age without enough to live the life they want. Financial stress is a leading cause of poor mental health. Only 8% of people have access to 1‑to‑1 financial advice. Octopus Money combines financial planning, investment expertise and smart technology to give people clear plans for savings, investments and pensions, and supports employers who want their teams to feel more secure and in control.
The Role
Client Relationship Management (Core Focus)
- Act as the primary point of contact for clients, building strong, trusted relationships throughout the divorce process.
- Communicate complex pension matters in a clear, calm, and accessible way.
- Provide reassurance and guidance to clients navigating sensitive financial and personal circumstances.
- Manage expectations proactively, ensuring clients are kept informed at every stage.
- Lead client discussions and maintain a consistent, high‑quality experience from instruction through to completion.
- Act as an introducer to other Octopus Group companies and services where appropriate.
Technical Pensions Work
- Oversee and review pension sharing calculations and related outputs.
- Interpret pension benefits across Defined Benefit (DB), Defined Contribution (DC), and hybrid arrangements.
- Work confidently with Cash Equivalent Transfer Values (CETVs) and scheme‑specific benefit structures.
- Ensure absolute accuracy and consistency across all technical calculations and supporting documentation.
- Apply your pension knowledge in a practical, case‑focused manner.
Case & Workflow Management
- Manage a portfolio of divorce‑related pension cases end‑to‑end.
- Prioritise your workload effectively to meet deadlines and client expectations.
- Coordinate with internal teams to ensure timely and accurate delivery of outputs.
- Identify and resolve risks or issues early in the process.
- Maintain clear case records and ensure high standards of documentation.
Professional Liaison & Collaboration
- Work closely with solicitors, financial advisers, and other professionals involved in the divorce proceedings.
- Contribute to a collaborative, service‑led approach across all client interactions.
- Support the continuous improvement of our internal processes, templates, and client experience.
Values
- Make every conversation matter – you care about how you make people feel, communicate clearly, listen well and build trust.
- Move with urgency and focus – you like getting stuck in, care about making progress, not perfection, and stay focused on what matters.
- Own it – you take responsibility for your work and hold yourself to a high standard.
What we look for
- A relevant pensions qualification and experience (e.g. PMI, DipPFS).
- Strong knowledge of UK pension schemes, including DB and DC arrangements.
- A clear understanding of pension sharing and how these mechanisms operate within divorce proceedings.
- Familiarity with Cash Equivalent Transfer Values (CETVs).
- Awareness of relevant industry guidance (e.g., Pensions Advisory Group) is desirable.
Experience
- 3+ years’ experience in pensions administration, consultancy, financial advice, or a technical pensions role.
- Experience analysing multiple types of pension schemes.
- Proven experience in a client‑facing role, ideally involving complex or sensitive financial matters.
- Experience acting as the primary contact for clients.
The Interview Process
- An intro call with our talent team.
- A competency‑based interview with the hiring manager.
- A panel interview with a task presentation.
- A conversation focused on how you work and what you value.
What’s in it for you
Base salary: £40,000 to £45,000 DOE + benefits.
