Birmingham Women’s and Children’s NHS Foundation Trust is the Lead Provider of the West Midlands CAMHS Provider Collaborative (WMCPC) also known as TOUCAN. The Trust is a joint‑commissioned provider of specialist mental health, learning disability and autism services for young people aged 12‑18.

We are recruiting for a substantive full‑time Senior Case Manager for Residential Children in Care, based at our Clinical Commissioning Hub. The role involves working with the Integrated Care Boards, providing case management, monitoring quality, safeguarding and gathering commissioning intelligence to improve outcomes for the patient population.

Location: Printing House Street, Birmingham. Salary: £66,582 – £77,368 per annum. Contract: Permanent, 37.5 hours per week. Closing date: 29/06/2026 (23:59).

Main duties of the job

Case management is a recognised national role within the NHS and a national network of peers ensures that admission to a Tier 4 bed is appropriate, timely and focused on appropriate discharge. The successful candidate will hold a relevant professional qualification and have knowledge of mental health services and integrated care systems. They will need direct experience in specialised secure care, forensic services or eating disorders, and significant experience with Children in Care and Deprivation of Liberty Orders.

They must understand and apply quality and clinical governance systems and have an excellent track record of interpersonal and organisational skills. Induction, training and continuous professional development will be provided. The role will require home‑working, travel within the West Midlands and beyond.

Person specification

Qualifications

  • Registered Mental Health/Learning Disability Nurse or other registered health or social care professional.
  • Educated to masters level or equivalent experience of working at a senior level in a specialist area.

Knowledge & Nature of Experience

  • Appreciation of the relationship between the Department of Health and individual provider and commissioning organisations.
  • Member of the relevant professional body.

Analytical and Judgement Skills

  • Case management skills, focusing on the needs of the individual and the context of their pathway in relation to all clinical and legal processes.

Professional/Managerial/Specialist Knowledge

  • Development and maintenance of therapeutic alliance with service users and their families/carers.
  • High‑level management skills, able to perform to a high level in a clinical setting, holding services to account and ensuring effective use of NHS England resources.
  • High‑level communication skills (e.g. communicating across a range of agency and professional boundaries regionally and at a national level).
  • Demonstrable programme and project management skills.
  • Direct experience of achieving pathway and/or service change through service redesign techniques to improve patient experience and outcomes (e.g. Lean).

Personal Skills/Abilities and Attributes

  • Self‑motivated.
  • Ability to move between details and the bigger picture.
  • Demonstrates honesty and integrity and promotes organisational values.
  • Embrace change, viewing it as an opportunity to learn and develop.
