Team Leader: the role and responsibilities

  • Understand and be responsible for all key operational processes and procedures in your area, managing the combined overall output by coordinating activities.
  • Prioritise and deliver in line with agreed SLAs, whilst effectively planning resources and equipment.
  • Work in collaboration with the Site Planner to ensure delivery of site plans.
  • Analyse data, establish root cause, put in place correct measures and elevate issues to management timely.
  • Understand cost of sales reporting and its impact on the department.
  • Set, monitor and review KPI and SLA targets for the team.
  • Ensure adherence to all H&S regulations and report incidents and near‑misses via the correct channel.
  • Deliver exceptional standards across your area of responsibility.
  • Ensure your team has all equipment/training necessary to work productively and share best practice.
  • Full responsibility for performance management of the team, focusing on wellbeing, absence and performance (including PIP, investigations, disciplinary actions as appropriate). Align with the local People Team where necessary.
  • Conduct regular one‑to‑one sessions giving constructive feedback.
  • Implement training for all colleagues and new starters to develop and exceed their potential.
  • Regularly review performance and implement development plans.
  • Escalate issues to the Operations Manager/AGM where necessary.
  • Ensure compliance across the team with company policies and procedures, including H&S.
  • Embed company values throughout the team and lead by example.
  • Participate in department and site projects and drive continuous improvement.
  • Build strong workable relationships across the wider business.
  • Share best practice.
  • Flexibility to undertake additional duties as required by business needs.

About You

  • Demonstrable experience in a similar role managing a team.
  • Confident navigation of Excel, PowerPoint, Word and an understanding of warehouse management systems.
  • UK resident able to travel to and from the site for your shift.
  • Unable to assist with VISA applications or relocation.
