Role Description
This is a part‑time hybrid role for a Welder Fabricator based in Plymouth, with some flexibility to complete planning, documentation and coordination tasks from home. Day to day the Welder Fabricator will interpret technical drawings, prepare materials and carry out MIG/TIG/arc welding and fabrication of structural and architectural steel components such as frames, staircases and handrails. The role includes cutting, forming, drilling and finishing steel, assembling fabrications to specified tolerances and assisting with workshop layout and housekeeping to maintain a safe, efficient environment. The Welder Fabricator will conduct visual checks and basic quality control, support onsite installation teams as required and follow all health, safety and environmental procedures. Collaboration with project managers, site supervisors and other trades will be required to meet deadlines and ensure accurate, timely delivery.
Qualifications
- Strong practical welding and fabrication skills, ideally including MIG, TIG and/or MMA, with experience working to drawings and tolerances.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical drawings, fabrication details and method statements for structural and architectural steelwork.
- Experience using workshop tools and machinery such as saws, grinders, drills, presses and measuring equipment in a safe and controlled manner.
- Understanding of health, safety and environmental practices in fabrication and construction, including safe systems of work and PPE use.
- Ability to plan and prioritise tasks, work accurately to deadlines and communicate effectively with colleagues, supervisors and site teams.
- Relevant trade apprenticeship, NVQ/City & Guilds or equivalent qualification in welding, fabrication or a closely related discipline (or comparable experience).
- Previous experience in structural steel, architectural metalwork or construction environments is highly desirable.
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to attend local sites in support of installation and erection activities would be an advantage.
