We are seeking an Assistant Technician to provide agile, customer-focused technical support across the Faculty of Humanities, supporting teaching, research and professional services activities.
Responsibilities
- Communicate confidently and effectively, providing first line support across the University at all levels of the organisation and external contacts escalating any issues as required.
- Inspect, perform basic routine maintenance, servicing, repair and modification of audio visual, electronic and other equipment held across the faculty with an awareness and understanding of relevant health and safety requirements in the workplace.
- Work with internal stakeholders (e.g. Estates, academic and PS staff) and arrange engineer/contractor visits to resolve any issues related to equipment, estate, Podcast suites, lecture rooms and escalating issues where required. Provide Video and Web conferencing support.
- Act as a first point of contact and provide information, advice and guidance on routine matters, knowing when to escalates to others when necessary. React quickly and efficiently to resolve problems and issues when reported through the helpline.
- Process AV bookings and install/remove requested equipment in a timely manner.
Essential Criteria
- A qualification in a related subject area (e.g., degree, HND, HNC, Level 4 NVQ) or significant work experience in a relevant technical role.
- Working knowledge of media and audio visual technologies including, but not limited to: digital display systems, interactive systems, signal switching, scaling and distribution, audio and PA, control systems, media capture and editing, media streaming, video conferencing and digital signal processing.
- Excellent IT skills (e.g., Microsoft Office, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Demonstrable experience of working in AV & media.
- Good oral and written communication skills.
Desirable Criteria
- Experience with digital video cameras and knowledge of Adobe Premiere Pro or other video/audio manipulation software.
- Experience in programming and GUI design for professional AV control systems, particularly the AMX platforms.
- Experience using an equipment inventory system.
- Proactive approach and commitment to ongoing personal training and continued professional development (CPD) with a strong interest in acquiring new skills and competencies.
